Pausing, and reflecting on our values, goals and life journey can help gain clarity on what truly matters to us, and how we would like to “show up” in various aspects of our lives.
I have noticed that during therapeutic work, the act of encouraging exploration and mindfulness of a person’s hopes and needs often leads to valued based actionable steps to take. Below are a few of my favorite questions:
Reflecting on the past year…
- Which of my needs were most important (i.e., Connection; Physical Well-Being; Honesty; Peace; Autonomy; Meaning)?
- Have I been receiving enough support?
- Did I have the work-life balance I desired?
- Who has inspired me?
- Has my idea of ‘success’ changed at all?
- What was the most difficult challenge I faced?
- What is one change I made that I am proud of myself for?
- What is one mistake I made and what did I learn from it?
- What advice would I give myself if I could travel back to the start of the year?
In the next year…
- What values would I like to align with more (i.e., kindness, self-compassion, patience, acceptance, flexibility)
- What would I like to let go off?
- How would I like for my relationships to be different?
- How would I like to my professional life to change?
- What is one fun thing I really want to do?
- What is one change I would like to make for myself?
- What are the barriers to this change and creative ways to overcome these barriers?
If any of the questions resonated, I would suggest exploring what about the question was important for you. If you would like dedicated, intentional time to explore your personal growth please feel free to schedule a free initial consult.
